Watch television for half an hour and select a commercial you find appealing, annoying, idiotic, hackneyed, infuriating, etc. Then, generate a list of single words that somehow describes the commercial—these could be images, names, sounds, or abstractions. You only have five minutes to generate the list.
Now take the list of words you’ve created and use them as the basis for either a poem or short story.
You know you so want to use the priceless Filet-O-Fish.
Alternative Exercise: Choose a fast food sandwich and write a short story or poem somehow involving some aspect of it.
